Specialist in IT Transformation and Large Scale Cloud Migrations: Transitional Data Services, Inc.
“A cross-silo, application centric and business aligned approach for orchestrating successful IT transformation.”
Transitional Services (TDS) provides sector-leading services and software to orchestrate large scale cloud migrations and hybrid enterprise data centers. This includes services for application migrations, virtual/cloud migrations and data center relocations/consolidation while taking into account business requirements, risk management and resilency. The company was founded as an IT consulting and services company with focus on IT operations, data center migrations and application software development which provides a full 360 perspective of IT systems deployment, operations, resiliency and compliance.
In 2009, TDS launched TransitionManager primarily as a tool for internal use. TransitionManager combines asset inventory management, dependency / relationship mapping, program management, auto runbook creation and a command center for orchestrating change. The software is a purpose-built web application that is available in SaaS or premise deployments. In 2013, TDS formally introduced TransitionManager to the market as a standalone software product decoupled from TDS migration services.
Since then, TransitionManager has since been adopted by several of the largest global IT service providers and in 2015, Gartner recognized TDS as a Cool Vendor based on the value and success of TransitionManager. The company is headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, with customers worldwide including TDS direct customers and projects managed by its global partner network.
The dual focus of TDS’ business feed each other. First, the company provides comprehensive services to help companies deploy, transform and manage hybrid IT environments (including a mixture of conventional data center, cloud and SaaS services). Not only does the TDS staff know how to deliver successful projects on time and on budget, but this first hand experience with some of the most complex migration and transformation projects.
And in order to standardize these leading transformation services, TDS created the TransitionManager software suite to improve the end-to-end migration process – including discovery, analysis, planning and execution. TransitionManager is unique in the industry as the only IT planning and orchestration system that spans all operating silos (server, storage, network and applications) and manages dependencies between IT infrastructure, application software, business requirements and supplier capabilities.
TransitionManager is a web-based collaboration tool that greatly simplifies and streamlines the end-to-end process for orchestrating complex IT and Data Center transformation initiatives. TransitionManager includes a cross silo asset inventory (physical and virtual), the ability to visualize complex relationships/dependencies (application, infrastructure and compliance), templated workflows with real-time execution, and a full command and communication center to assure smooth migrations.
TransitionManager was developed specifically to fill a void, allowing TDS top in point and factor out risk in order complete projects faster, with less disruption to users and while meeting all the business operational goals necessary for success. The software tackles head-on many of the challenges that contribute to a typical failure rate of 80-90%, as cited by Gartner.
TDS developed TransitionManager so that it could compete, win and thrive against some of the largest tech companies in the world. Since these huge companies rely on a brute force approach with large, billable staff and outdated tools, TDS knew the way to differentiate and win was by taking a fresh approach. TransitionManager has been further optimized and honed over the years and TDS continues to release new features and enhancements every quarter.
The fact that TDS has been recognized as a leader in transitions and transformations by Gartner and CIO Review serves as validation that the firm’s approach is unique and valued by the industry. To maintain this leadership, it is very important to the company that its solution is continuously enhanced based on real world feedback by its migration experts, its customers and the strategic partners who have standardized on TDS methodology and TransitionManager software.
It is this direct involvement with TDS’ leading partners and innovative customers that allow it to continue to differentiate and extend the company’s solution portfolio.

Industry-proven, Cloud-Based Data Migration Platform
Because TDS’ solutions are not vertical market specific, its client list includes many well-known Fortune 500 companies in financial services, manufacturing, health care, energy and web / internet. TDS has also been deployed in the US government and selected by some of the largest integrators in the world to help them improve their project delivery success.
The company’s service delivery is unique in that it starts by understanding the business operational goals and builds the technology migration plan to match. When the business needs drive the IT transformation, the requirements are well understood and success is much easier to manage. TDS also takes an application centric view which aligns nicely with the business perspective. This application centric view is essential to ensure successful IT, data center and cloud migrations / transformations. TDS intends to increase its leadership by embedding additional features and functionality to support emerging requirements for business resiliency and more complex application migrations to cloud in the near future.
