Volkswagen’s all-electric race cars: An ultimate winner!
The Silicon Review
25 June, 2018

The peaks of Colorado’s Pikes witnessed speed at it best when a specially designed electric car by Volkswagen broke the record of the fastest electric car. For the past 100 years, cars have been setting records on the uphill of Pikes Peaks. This time, a new record has been set in the name of Romain Dumas, a French racing driver, who drove this stunningly beautiful electric car, I.D R Pikes peak on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, clocking a time of 7:57 on the 12.42-mile track.

The pike peak track climbs 4,720 feet to a finish 14,110 feet above sea level, where car twists around 156 turns. Volkswagen last competed in the event in 1987, where it introduced a dual-engine Golf to the event. The I.D R Pikes Peak consists of two electric engines, which gives 500 KW of performance and it can accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.25 sec.

“The pikes peak International Hill Climb is similar to the 24-hour race at Le Mans”, Dumas said in a statement before the race. He further adds, "It's not like the World Rally Championship or Formula 1, where if you screw up during a race, you just focus on the next one. At Pikes Peak, you cannot afford to have any problems. You only have one shot. Le Mans is like a marathon, whereas Pikes Peak is the 100-meter final."

Not everyone is lucky enough to get inside this thunder car, but it surely thrilled the spectators by the adventurous race on the mountains!
