Facebook’s Weaponized Ad Technology

Facebook’s Weaponized Ad Technology
The Silicon Review
17 August, 2018

Facebook has designed a tool with which advertisers and marketers can identify those users who are most likely to buy the products these marketers have to offer. In other words, the click-through rate will now be better by Facebook’s idea of providing the user’s location, interests, and political learnings. Not to mention, online gambling as well as part of the entire structure. The major intention for this move is to provide marketers with a way where they can aim their ads in such a way that they can narrow down the 1.5 billion daily users using social media.

Facebook is one among the players in the tech industry. Facebook’s major competitors are Google, Twitter, and other social media platforms. These firms also offer data-mining services that are used to influence consumer and behavior of voters. This gargantuan reach of Facebook is aimed at helping political microtargeting. The structure holds vast user data and it is now an easy to use self-service advertising system. Surely this is what many marketers and other officials wanted all this time hence it is finally here.

Analysts say that this has essentially weaponized the ad technology designed for consumer products and services. Sarah Golding, the president of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, an industry organization in Britain also mentioned that there is a huge danger that almost all users will get their own concerns played back to them.  Sarah’s group called for a moratorium on political microtargeting a few days back. All things are really shifting its gear and let us what happens in the future.
