Following Industry Trend, McDonald’s on Mission to Remove Artificial Ingredients from its Menu

In a move to attract more health-conscious consumers to its drive-thrus and counters, fast food company McDonald’s plans to eliminate artificial ingredients from its menu. In addition, the company’s Big Mac Special Sauce is getting a makeover. It was announced on Wednesday.

“This development demonstrates our commitment to leading with the customer and building a better McDonald’s,” said McDonald’s US president Chris Kempczinski in a statement.

It’s safe to mention that the fast food company’s seven classic burgers will no longer include artificial preservatives, flavours or coloring. The change affects every part of the sandwich – from the bun to the cheese and the sauce.

The seven burgers: cheeseburger, the hamburger, double cheeseburger, Double Pounder with Cheese, McDouble, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and Big Mac.

According to a report, the company said that the components eliminated include calcium propionate, an artificial preservative, and sorbic acid, a preservative. The other artificial preservatives removed include sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, and calcium disodium EDTA.

In addition, the company said that the iconic Big Mac Special Sauce is also being reformulated.

McDonald’s is following an industry trend toward healthier food: Two years ago, the company ditched high fructose corn syrup in its buns and removed artificial preservatives from its McNuggets.

Earlier this year, McDonald’s replaced frozen beef with fresh beef in its Quarter Pounders and rejiggered its Happy Meal offerings with healthier options, like milk.

In the recent past, the brands such as Taco Bell, Subway and Panera Bread also have got rid of artificial ingredients from their menus.
