Microsoft has made a move to add a new hardware to its Xbox accessory family called the Xbox Adaptive Controller. Presently available for purchase on the Microsoft Store, the Xbox Adaptive Controller makes play easier for gamers with mobility issues. Its unique design is the result of the collaboration between gamers with disabilities and partners from several organizations including the AbleGamers Charity, Special Effect, the Cerebral Palsy Foundation and Warfighter Engaged and is priced at $99.

Recently, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) announced the acquisition of the controller for display in its Rapid Response gallery. According to V&A, the Xbox Adaptive Controller is the first of its kind to be designed and manufactured at a large-scale while also making its mark in videogame play. The inputs on its front have a D-pad and huge A and B buttons along with 3.5mm jacks and USB ports around its sides that support all the standard controller functions. It also allows using the Xbox One’s built-in copilot feature to share its controls with other standard inputs.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller is a product that was ideated and pioneered with inclusivity at its heart”, mentioned Microsoft in a blog post. In addition to that, its sleek and unobtrusive design makes it look as good as any other Xbox controller. Microsoft has also worked on the details in the packaging that makes it easy to unbox as gamers mentioned that they found it difficult to open its product packages.
