Disney revealed that it is working on a second live-action Star Wars show for its upcoming online streaming video channel, Disney+. Actor Diego Luna is reprising the famous role of CassianAndor who was a Rebel Alliance spy. Cassian was an important character in the 2016 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The show is being created for Disney’s streaming media.

Disney also made an announcement that it is producing a seriesbased on a fictional character Loki, published by Marvel Comics. Tom Hiddleston is reportedly playing his role. There are several shows in the progress from Marvel Entertainment which is a Disney subsidiary.Earlier this fall, ‘The Mandalorian’, a 10-episode series was announced by Lucasfilm and it is currently in production. It is being written by Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Lucasfilm and Disney are re-evaluating their approach to the Star Wars franchise. Disney undoubtedly wants its streaming video platform to be a massive success and hence it is coming up with such appealing shows to promote the platform. Star Wars and Marvel shows would definitely inspire the fans to pay to subscribe to the channel. Online streaming has become a competitive space with the dominance of Amazon, Netflix, andHulu. Hence, it will be interesting to see how Disney+ manages to build a strong viewership.
