Netflix users receiving strange email that seems like a spoofing scam

Netflix users receiving strange email that seems like a spoofing scam
The Silicon Review

Netflix subscribers are warned not to fall for the strange emailthat they are receiving as it is likely a scam. Similar scams have been reported in September and October 2017. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a warning against the scam. FTC warned the users not to open emails from Netflix that look suspicious. Ohio police have taken screenshots of the email and posted them in order to aware the users.

The hackers are basically faking emails to pose as a company in order to steal users’ private data. The fake email persuades Netflix users to share their data, which is an attempt to steal personal information like account numbers, passwords, SSNs etc.The emailasks users to click on the link to update payment details as there are some issues with the current billing information which will disrupt the services.

The scam looks pretty legit like any other phishing scam. Hence, there is a high possibility of users clicking through, which might lead to accidentally download some malware that can do anything to the device, including locking them out of their own device in the worst case scenario.

Netflix has a strict privacy policy and as per it, it never demands users for any personal information to be shared over email. This includes payment details, passwords etc.
