Android users can now make donations through the Google Play Store
The Silicon Review
13 December, 2018

The Google Play Store will now allow customers to make charitable donations to non-profit organizations from their Android device. Although it seems a bit odd to use the platform that is designed to download apps, for charity purpose, Apple has proved that it actually works. For years, Apple has collected donations for the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization thathas actively raised funds for natural disasters like the California wildfires and hurricanes.

Google is rolling out the charity options for Android users in countries like Germany, the US, Great Britain, France, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan,Italy etc. Apart from the American Red Cross, they will be able to do charitable donations to a number of organizations like Girls Who code, International Rescue Committee, Room to Red, Save the Children, UNICEF, World Food Program USA, World Wildlife Fund US etc.

Android users can access the feature by going to play.google.com/donate where they can read about the organizations and make the donation if they wish. Google informed that they are not allowing Android app developers to collect donations. Rather, play Store itself is doing so. Google is covering for all the additional costs like transaction and disbursement costs so that the organizations receive 100% of the donations.

Going to be launched in the next few days, the launch has been timed perfectly considering that it is the holiday season which generally witnesses more charity.
