Despite US allegations, British security officials do not support a full ban of Chinese tech firm Huawei from national telecoms networks, Reuters reported.

“We don’t favour a complete ban. It’s not that simple,” a source was quoted as saying by Reuters. The source is associated with the news organisation.

Huawei faces intense scrutiny in the West over its allegations of enabling state espionage. As a result, several countries in this region restricted the firm’s access to their markets.

Huawei, on the other hand, has denied the claims of it spying for Beijing. The firm’s rotating chairman Eric Xu said the company had been working with various governments in order to ensure standards to measure the safety and security of products.

“In this context, Huawei has been working with different governments and industry partners to put in place agreed standards, so that people can take those standards to measure how secure the products from all of the vendors are,” Xu told Reuters in an emailed statement on Monday.

Last year in December, Huawei Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, was detained in Canada. In response, China arrested two Canadian citizens. But Canada claims that China has detained 13 of its citizens.

As a result, Ms. Wanzhou continues to stay house arrested in the country.
