Sony and Fujitsu Creates a Blockchain Platform to Prevent Fake educational Qualifications

Sony and Fujitsu have co-developed a blockchain platform to prevent fake educational qualifications, The Asahi Shimbun reported.

Since fake language proficiency documents are being used by many foreign students as a tool to attain resident status in Japan, the new platform aims to prevent it.

In Japan, if a student wants to pursue higher studies and obtain a permit, he/she must have a proper Japanese language proficiency certificate. Therefore, any student without a proper language certificate may find it hard to sustain their daily lives in the country. Recently, forgeries of language certificates have reportedly been found in various countries.

Both the above-cited firms have developed the new platform by integrating Fujitsu’s online learning system with a blockchain created by Sony’s subsidiary Sony Global Education Inc. The platform will help Japanese language schools to check and compare language certificates; where the data will be embedded in the blockchain in order to check the authenticity of the documents.

The platform is expected to be tested in March followed by deployment for real-world use in April. Both the companies have decided to test the platform at Human Academy Co. The academy operates various language schools in the capital city, Tokyo and in Osaka and Saga respectively.

Apart from Japanese development, many institutions and universities across the globe have been using blockchain tech to prevent fake diplomas. Last week, the government of Malta has decided to store all educational certification on a blockchain. The certification will include all documents from state, private and parochial schools.
