Red Hat and NVIDIA forms a collaboration to build powerful 5G RAN for telecos
The Silicon Review
23 October, 2019

Red Hat and NVIDIA recently made an announcement that they are expanding their collaboration to create a high performance, 5G wireless infrastructure that is software-defined running on OpenShift for the telecom industry. The expansion was announced by Jensen Huang, CEO and founder of NVIDIA at the Mobile World Congress that took place in Los Angeles. Accelerating the adoption of Kubernetes in data centers of enterprises was a part of the earlier announcements made by the companies.

The expansion allows the consumers to easily make use of Red Hat OpenShift and NVIDIA ECX platform to deploy NVIDIA GPUs to accelerate data science, AI and machine learning at the edge. This kit will also allow the providers to build high-performance 5G wireless RAN that is software-defined. Two essential advancements were made one is a 5G physical layer signal-processing engine, which will keep all the data in the GPU’s high-performance memory, and another one is Mellanox network interface cards to GPU memory. Telecos can make full use of their network investment by running 5G RAN on a cloud-native platform to bring new services like VR, AI, AR, and gaming.
