A cloud storage service which was announced in 2015 made use of peer-to-peer, decentralized build of the blockchain technology to store users’ data on computer. Storj Labs provides a beta storage system for consumers, developers, and businesses, initially the company launched its service in August and it was named as Tardigrade Decentralized Cloud Storage Service. Recently, the company made an announcement regarding its Beta 2 pricing and release and it was aimed at cloud service provided by Amazon. The Tardigrade storage service is expected to be more resilient and cost-effective and it also claims to have 99.97% of availability. The pricing of this storage is said to be significantly lesser than other legacy cloud storage provider.

Most of the time when there is a price quote by legacy provider it will not include features like multi-zone redundancy and encryption, but these features are standard in Tardigrade without any additional cost. Currently, the service by Storj has around 400 active users and every user who rents out a part of their storage will earn currency to purchase capacity in Tardigrade service. Non-developers to run a storage node must first receive an authorization token by signing up on Storj’s website.Storj will hold back some parts of the operator’s earning until they become a permanent part of the network.
