AMP Robotics unveils new Robotic System
The Silicon Review
08 May, 2019

AMP Robotics, a Colorado-based company, has unveiled a new robotic system. Dubbed as AMP Cortex dual-robot system (DRS), it is designed for recovering material from construction and demolition, electronic waste, and municipal solid waste.

Based on the AMP Neuron AI platform, the system is one of the premium products under the company’s range of high-speed recycling robotics.

Coming to the mechanism of the modularly designed AMP Cortex DRS, it runs on two high- performance robots. The robot’s operates at an extraordinary speed as it can pick and place materials swiftly at 160 pieces/ minute. Hence, the system can deliver optimum productivity.

According to the company, in terms of recognizing material characterestics, the new system identifies different colours, shapes, sizes, textures, and patterns with the help of ML and computer vision. The robots pick and place the targeted material as commanded by the DRS. The speciality of the system is that it can carry out operations 24/7 with accurate sorting, preventing contaminants in material streams.

The system also enhances the quality and purity of commodities to be reclaimed. AMP Cortex DRS is developed to drop into existing facilities without the need of downtime, helping the customers to rip the benefits from advanced automation in less time.

Sorting fibre is a bit difficult than sorting sheets of paper or cardboard, but the company reports that the two robots are well equipped and has the potential to process difficult material streams of postconsumer fibre in an efficient manner.
