Studies report that regular us...Recent studies have proven that regular users of marijuana may cause sleep disorders in the long run. Marijuana users claim that using the substance before a shuteye gives them better sleep. This might not be entirely true as regular usage may lead to dependency on the substance which can lead to withdrawal symptoms on discontinuing usage. Studies has shown that this may lead to conditions like insomnia or a relapse as individuals may experience difficulty in following into a regular sleep pattern without cannabis.
"We know from studies of recreational users of cannabis that sleep disturbances are common when they are attempting to quit cannabis use.Up to two-thirds of them report sleep disturbances when they stop cannabis use, and it is a frequent reason for relapse to cannabis use. Therefore, cannabis can set up a pattern where it is minimally helpful for sleep in the short term and then disrupt sleep, making it difficult to stop use in the medium to long term," said sleep psychiatrist and neurologist Dr. BhanuprakashKolla, who works in the Center for Sleep Medicine and the Division of Addiction Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
The studies have been conducted over different circumstances on users from various age groups. Placebos have also been used as a part of the research in order to get the most accurate result possible.
