TOMRA unveils the Express returns concept for the TOMRA R1

The largest reverse vending machines manufacturer, TOMRA, unveils the Express returns concept to further expand its recycling automation offerings. The machine can handle up to 100 empty drink containers in one go. With the new Express feature, the machine has become the first completely automated container recycling system. There is no need for recyclers to wait at the machine for their voucher or manually handle each container.

Harald Henriksen, Head of TOMRA Collection Solutions, pointed “The TOMRA R1 with Express returns is like the self-driving car of container recycling”. He also added that the machine fundamentally transforms the way people recycle because of the new features which make it completely hands-free, wait-free, and mess-free. The Norwegian Company currently sells the machine only in Norway and Sweden and plans to launch in other Germany and other countries soon. The Express feature works differently than the traditional TOMRA R1. With the new Express feature, the first step is to scan a QR code on the machine. Next comes emptying the containers and closing the lid, after which the recyclers can walk away and start their shopping. The deposit reaches the consumer via an electronic voucher, which can be redeemed in stores against their shopping bills.
