Indefinite delays in 5G adoption can be expected due the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic
The Silicon Review
01 December, 2020

Jonathan Davidson, SVP and GM of  Cisco, has stated that mobile network operators who did not make decisions in regards to 5G before 2020 will lose almost a year’s worth of development. He furthermore added that the ongoing pandemic has indefinitely delayed various actions required for 5G adoption like technology evaluation, testing, permits, and auctions. This indefinite delay is significantly affecting the vast majority of people because only a few of them had actually got their 5G efforts underway before the start of the year 2020. If the decisions were made earlier, then the operators are well poised on their path of deployment. The hiccups that were seen initially are now progressively receding at pace. There is, however, a bit of pushover from the majority of the world because they haven’t made their decisions yet for backhaul or mobile core.

Operators’ delay is mainly due to the resurgence of COVID 19, and there are no guarantees that 2021 could possibly bring any relief. Health officials are warning the individuals that the pandemic will continue to worsen before the situation can somewhat improve in the Q3 of 2020. Cisco is significantly boosting its vendor’s confidence with the adoption of microservices, cloud-native techs, and early strides in virtualization.
