Microsoft has recently reported that a hacking group was responsible for breaking onto its system and accessing a few source codes. The stolen source codes are basically a set of underlying instructions that can run an OS or software. The Source code is Microsoft’s closest guarded secret, and it is well-known that the company is very careful about securing it. The company is yet to determine the number of parts the hackers were able to steal, but it was disclosed that the hackers had made use of SolarWinds as a springboard to gain access to the information. From the tech giant’s end, it was already disclosed that the company had found some malicious version of SolarWinds’ solutions in its network.

The SolarWinds hack is being considered as one of the most ambitious disclosures made by the company. This incident has led to compromising some federal agencies and a few thousand companies and other institutions. Private sector investigators are working closely with the US to identify whether the data was modified or stolen. Microsoft has stated that the source code was not modified because it would’ve caused a catastrophic event. Experts are suggesting that by reviewing the codes, we might get some insight to subvert certain Microsoft services and products.
