IOC and UEFA’s new guide...To improve the sustainability of major Olympic events and other sporting events, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has partnered with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to commission an analytics-based technical study guide that identifies sustainable branding and signage solutions. The branding and signage used at events such as flags, banners, and information boards will be designed more sustainably based on the procurement decisions.
Branding and signage are the factors that play a pivotal role in bringing color to an event and engage participants but can also be a significant source of waste. It requires a better understanding of the composition of branding and signage materials and how to minimize the lifecycle, which will help reduce their environmental impact. This collaboration will help to improve responsible production and use of such materials at events.
Aimed at event organizers and sustainability professionals, this partnership will evaluate the environmental impact of over 40 branding and signage materials that include innovative ones such as banners made of recycled plastic or hardboards that will contain or been made of bio-based content. It also provides guiding principles to improve decision-making abilities within organizations that acquire them.
