Toyota Motor Europe CEO Dr. Johan van Zyl speaks about the Brexit deal and European EV market
The Silicon Review
23 March, 2021

Toyota Motor Europe CEO Dr. Johan van Zyl who is retiring soon, has recently spoken about the future of electric vehicles in Europe, its humungous growth in recent times, and more. He has stated that the firm will continue its relationship with PSA to source its Proace and Proace City from PSA. He has also indicated that Toyota will be selling hybrids and plug-in hybrid versions by 2035.

He has also assured that more hybrids will enter the market along with battery-electric vehicles. Toyota will also launch many plug-ins. The next target of Toyota Motors will be to sell a million zero-emission vehicles by 2025 in Europe, and to launch many electric models by the end of this year. Europe, an advanced country, is in the right place for electrification; there is a Green Deal, renewable energy, and a budget system to support this take.

Speaking about the Brexit agreement, Dr. Johan said that Brexit has agreed to a free trade agreement that gives an opportunity to further focus in Burnaston on its cost competitiveness, which will help it create a solid base for the business for the future. In the end, he added that he is retiring from all international assignments, including Toyota Motor Corporation. However, Dr. Johan will return to South Africa, where he will still be the chairman of Toyota South Africa.
