Sony Beefs Up To Manufacture a...Sony to manufacture and sell electric vehicles under its own brand called Sony Mobility Inc.
Sony Group Corp., the maker of PlayStation videogame consoles and other electronics, has recently announced that it would create a brand new car unit and will make an entry into the electric-vehicle market. This move by Sony shows how the electronics and car businesses are dependent on each other and overlapping. At the recent CES technology conference held in Las Vegas, Sony has displayed a prototype of a seven-seat electric SUV with an all-wheel drive.
Sony first designed and showcased an EV sedan at CES in 2020, but the company stated that it has no plans to sell a Sony car. The initial prototype displayed was intended to show Sony's robust and advanced image sensors, which can play a pivotal role in autonomous driving systems.
This move by Sony at the CES technology conference does suggest that the company is planning to manufacture and sell electric vehicles under its own brand rather than supplying its technology products to other carmakers. The company has also stated that it will establish a new automobile company called Sony Mobility Inc. in the spring.
