Airbnb permanently bans parties in its rental properties around the world

Airbnb would also remove the limit on the number of people allowed in its listings

Airbnb is banning all parties and events at its rental properties around the world. The San Francisco-based home-share company announced that it was codifying the temporary ban placed on unauthorized house parties over two years ago after it was proven to be effective. Disruptive parties and events – including open-invite gatherings – will continue to be prohibited. Additionally, "party house" properties, which are listings that create neighborhood nuisances, will continue to be "strictly prohibited," according to Airbnb.

Airbnb also said it would remove a limit on the number of people its listings are allowed to accommodate at any one time. It previously imposed a 16-person limit on occupants because of concerns over the spread of Covid-19. The firm said, "several types of larger homes are capable of comfortably and safely housing more than 16 people - from castles in Europe to vineyards in the US to large beachfront villas in the Caribbean”. Removing this cap is meant to allow those hosts to responsibly utilize the space in their homes. More than 6,600 guests had also been suspended from using the platform last year for breaking the rules.
