Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam winner, is launching a media production company in partnership with famed basketball player Lebron James. The media production company is in partnership with The SpringHill Company, which is a conglomerate created by Lebron James. The production company, named Hana Kuma, will produce non-fictional and scripted content; the first project will be a documentary about Patsy Mink, the first woman of color elected to U.S. Congress, according to a press release. The company said that its focus is to produce stories that will be “culturally specific but at the same time universal to all audiences” and aim to “tackle important issues of society.”

According to the release, The SpringHill Company, founded by NBA star James and business partner Maverick Carter will provide Hana Kuma with the necessary production and strategic resources. Hana Kuma has also partnered with crypto exchange platform FTX and health platform Modern Health. Hana Kuma means “flower bear” in Japanese. Osaka founded the company with her longtime agent and business partner, Stuart Duguid. Naomi Osaka earlier launched an athlete representation agency called Evolve. Hana Kuma is not Naomi Osaka’s first company. In May, the tennis champion launched the athlete representation agency Evolve with Duguid. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios became the first athlete to sign with the agency.
