Two sites banned gamers for re...A modification in the new PC version of the video game, Spider-Man Remastered; two gaming sites have banned gamers for removing its LGBTQ+ Pride flags.
Players can modify video games by adding new features such as locations and weapons. But the person who replaced Pride flags with the USA flag in Spider-Man was banned on ModDB and Nexus Mods. Nexus Mods director Robin Scott told users who disagreed with this decision to delete their account.
The presence of LGBTQ+ Pride flags in Spider-Man Remastered was supported by fans in favor of more in-game LGBTQ+ representation when it was first released in 2018. Last week the game was released for PC. Nexus Mods said the modification was very clearly done deliberately to troll mod, a feature where users can upload their tweaks.
This week, another popular modding site, ModDB, also deleted similar uploads to its location. It deleted an account replacing LGBTQ+ flags with "Anti-Gay Mod" in the Spider-Man game with a banner promoting Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. After a Twitter user flagged a mod which means changing the "stupid pride flag to American flags," ModDB removed the content and banned the user. ModDB wrote that it has an inclusive environment, and targeting marginalized groups is not permitted. It also added the site has a zero-tolerance policy for such content.
