Novavax says Omicron shot shows strong immune response as second booster

Novavax Omicron shot

The trial includes Novavax’s bivalent vaccine, BA.1 tailored shot and its prototype vaccine

Novavax Inc., the vaccine maker confirmed that its COVID-19 vaccine shot which was retooled against the Omicron BA.1 variant showed a strong immune response as the fourth dose and made the main goal of strain change in a study. The shot, NVX-CoV2515, produced 1.6 times the amount of neutralizing antibodies in people who had previously not exposed to the virus. This is in comparison to Novavax’s original coronavirus vaccine.

The trial includes Novavax’s bivalent vaccine, BA.1 tailored shot and its prototype vaccine. The results of the study conducted by Novavax shows that the Omicron –tailored shot can be changed to target a new variant vaccine if necessary. The FDA recommended the COVID vaccine makers change the design of their booster shots and included components tailored to combat the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub variants. The shot is yet to receive approval in the United States as a second booster dose.
