Cardiovascular disease is one of the most deadly diseases. Researchers have found a learning model that can easily predict death probability due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

One of the most common deadly diseases is cardiovascular disease. As per the records released by World Health Organization (WHO) it is estimated that this disease took away 17.9 million lives each year.

The increasing death rate created curiosity among the researchers to initiate working towards the development of medication for the prevention. The researchers have introduced a learning model that can easily predict a person’s death probability due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

"Our deep learning model offers a potential solution for population-based opportunistic screening of cardiovascular disease risk using existing chest X-ray images," said Jakob Weiss, M.D., a radiologist who joined forces with the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and the AI in Medicine programme at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He also added, "This type of screening could be used to identify individuals who would benefit from statin medication but are currently untreated."

The test score will also be based on age, sex, blood pressure, smoking, Type 2 diabetes. As X-Rays are easily available, this new development could aid individuals detect risk of cardiovascular disease said Dr. Weiss.
