Amazon and One Medical working together will eliminate hassles and waits for their patients
Amazon and US healthcare giant One Medical on Wednesday announced the completion of a merger they had been working on since 2022, completing their $3.9 billion plan to purchase their way into the healthcare industry. In 27 areas across the US, Amazon now owns and runs a chain of 221 medical offices. Also, Amazon now has access to the roughly 836,000 patients of One Medical's health information.
The model of One Medical is based on integrating on-demand technology into medical services. It offers patients access to video chats with doctors and other remote services for 14 hours using mobile apps. The business also guarantees same-day appointments. The CEO of Amazon, Andy Jassy, said that One Medical's business strategy will relieve its patients of problems and waits because they "want and deserve better."
The tech-driven business model of One Medical produces a lot of data. Amazon now has access to potentially profitable data thanks to its vast databases of customer purchase histories, video-watching preferences, and records from other medical technology companies it has acquired. In addition, Amazon has a history of preserving customer data and will adhere to relevant privacy laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
