Intermountain launches real-time CDS platform

Intermountain's platform is a standards-based workflow engine that integrates a variety of services.

Clinical decision support platform created by Intermountain Health medical informaticists integrates evidence-based medicine and artificial intelligence to speed up patient care and interact with electronic health records in real time. The new platform, an ePneumonia app, and future apps will eventually be accessible from any Intermountain Health hospital or urgent care facility in seven states.

The new platform makes it easier for healthcare professionals to provide patients with the best, most individualized treatment possible and ensures that the appropriate choice is made at the right time. The platform is a workflow engine based on standards that incorporates numerous services. The technology enables physicians to read from and write to patient health records in real time while operating outside of the EHR and utilizing the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources common healthcare language.

The platform enables more fast creation of clinical and business workflows and has the ability to perform and portray complicated clinical operations effectively. The goal of value-based care is to diagnose patient's early, increase patient safety and the standard of care, and lower healthcare costs. This new platform and the ePneumonia app are two technologies that actually support these goals.
