Microsoft to discontinue Windows Mail and Calendar and users will be redirected to the new Outlook application

Microsoft to discontinue
The Silicon Review
25 July, 2023

Starting August 2023, Microsoft will automatically migrate Mail and Calendar users to Outlook for Windows.

Microsoft has started notifying Windows 10 users and Windows 11 users about the auto migration of their Mail and Calendar apps to a new Outlook app. Launched in 2015, these built-in applications provide users with a convenient way to check their emails and view upcoming events on their calendar. Microsoft continued bundling these outdated applications with Windows 11, but now the tech giant is asking users to try out the new Outlook app

At the moment, the message is only available to paid subscribers. However, it will soon be available in the free Outlook version. If you are using Windows, you can switch to the new Outlook version by clicking on the 'Try the new Outlook' toggle that appears in the upper-right corner of your Windows Mail app.

In a document available to Microsoft 365 business users only, Microsoft announced that it had begun the migration process. Starting August 2023, Microsoft will automatically migrate Mail and Calendar users to Outlook for Windows. Microsoft also announced that all Windows 11 devices would ship with Outlook for Windows from next year. However, Windows Mail and Calendar will continue to be available for download and use from the Microsoft Store until the end of 2024.
