Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest-growing airline, has announced the expansion of its Middle East network with a new route from London Luton Airport to Sphinx International Airport in Cairo. The new route, which will commence on October 30, will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tickets are already available at Wizz Air’s website and mobile app. Fares begin at EUR 59.99.This launch confirms Wizz Air’s commitment to ultra-low-cost travel expansion in the Middle East. Sphinx International Airport, which is currently undergoing final touches and is expected to become fully operational by the end of 2023, is a new airport located near the Giza Pyramids, a world-renowned archaeological site and tourist attraction.

The airport is expected to handle up to 1.2 million passengers per year and aims to reduce congestion at Cairo International Airport, which served 13 million passengers before the COVID-19 crisis. Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, expressed her excitement about supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and further contributing to the nation’s long-term goals. She also added that "we are delighted to be launching an exciting new route connecting the capital cities of the United Kingdom and Egypt, enabling ultra-low-cost travel between two must-see, culturally rich destinations". With Sphinx International Airport’s proximity to Giza, it is expected to promote one-day tourism and transportation of goods, as well as make several nearby historical sites more accessible to tourists.
