OpenAI to form a team to build...OpenAI went public about a team to build ‘crowdsourced’ governance ideas into its models
OpenAI went on record to say that it wants to take into account ideas from the public so that newer and more versions of its products can resonate with the needs and values of humanity. To reinforce this thought, OpenAI, one of the top AI startups, announced that it has formed a new team, namely the Collective Alignment team. This team consists of researchers and engineers to come up with a system to collect and “encode” public input on its models’ behaviors into OpenAI’s products thoroughly. The Collective Alignment team could be seen as an extension of OpenAI’s public program that was launched last May. The program was launched to grant funds to experiments in setting up a “democratic process” for deciding the rules AI systems should abide by. The main mission of the program was to find individuals, teams, organizations, and so on so that they could develop proof-of-concepts that would eventually answer the questions about AI.
The OpenAI team wrote in a blog post that it’ll continue to work with external advisors and grant teams too. It said that the partnership would include running pilots to incorporate prototypes into its models. OpenAI also mentioned that it was recruiting research engineers from divergent technical backgrounds who'd help OpenAI build something new and stay on top of the game.
