Telemundo has rehired Gemma García to lead its network news division

Assuming her new role as executive vice president of news, she will oversee the news programming of Noticias Telemundo across all platforms, editorial units, digital news properties, and news-gathering efforts, both in the United States and Latin America. Additionally, she will lead the coverage of the 2024 U.S. presidential election and the production of election-focused news specials. She steps into this position following the departure of Patsi Loris from the company in mid-January. Having previously served as Telemundo's SVP of digital news, she returns to the U.S. network after a brief tenure at Radio Televisión Española's OTT media service, RTVE Play.

Her career at Telemundo includes her tenure as VP for network and digital news from 2019 to 2022, during which she played a pivotal role in the development and launch of various news franchises and initiatives. Among these are the environmental reporting unit Planeta Tierra and Axios Latino, a bilingual Latino issues newsletter created in partnership with Axios. Her association with Noticias Telemundo began in 2016 when she joined as executive producer of "Noticias Telemundo" after serving as chief correspondent at Spanish television broadcaster TVE. She ascended to management roles, including deputy head of TVE's news department, following her work in New York, Italy, and North Africa.
