Body will serve as a voice for supply chain to support buildout of west coast floaters

Oceantic Network has unveiled the establishment of a West Coast Supplier Council dedicated to addressing the requirements and advancement of the region's offshore wind sector and its associated supply chain. Harnessing the knowledge and expertise of network members situated in the area, the council aims to ensure that supply chain perspectives and proficiency are integrated into state and federal planning processes concerning the region. Highlighting the significant challenges faced by the offshore sector on the East Coast, the trade body emphasized the importance of the West Coast learning from these experiences to foster a prosperous industry.

It asserted that floating offshore wind holds immense potential in aiding the United States' clean energy objectives, with West Coast states uniquely positioned to spearhead the initiative and establish a burgeoning American industry that offers enduring economic advantages. Nevertheless, the network cautioned that the exponential rise in demand for floating offshore wind on the West Coast will introduce new hurdles to the supply chain. Without addressing these issues, the industry may struggle to progress in a manner that maximizes benefits for communities. The Council affirmed its commitment to collaborating with all major stakeholders involved in the development of a thriving offshore wind sector on the West Coast. This includes project developers, labor unions, policymakers, port authorities, environmental advocates, and other relevant groups.
