As the U.S. Coast Guard and the Republic of Palau look forward to these upcoming endeavors

In a significant display of commitment to regional stability and increased collaboration, U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam played a pivotal role alongside the U.S. Coast Guard 14th District and regional counterparts during a high-level Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) with the Republic of Palau held in Honolulu from March 18 to 22, 2024. This strategic engagement, part of a series of bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening mutual defense and security initiatives, involved key representatives from both nations deliberating on a wide array of topics critical to their partnership.

Heading the Republic of Palau's delegation were President Surangel S. Whipps Jr., Ambassador Hersey Kyota, and other high-ranking officials and state governors, underscoring the depth of commitment to this significant alliance. The U.S. delegation was led by prominent figures, including Ambassador Joel Ehrenreich, Rear Adm. Gregory Huffman, Commander of Joint Region Marianas (JRM), Brig. Gen. Neil Richardson, Deputy Plans and Policy Division J5, and Capt. William Woityra, Chief of the Oceania Policy Division J35 at the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), emphasizing the importance the United States places on its relationship with Palau. The JCM concluded with a reception hosted by Rear Adm. Michael Day, commander of the U.S. Coast Guard 14th District, at the Diamond Head Lighthouse, reaffirming both delegations' commitment to their partnership and outlining future activities and engagements.
