Telefonica Germany Deploys 5G Standalone Core on AWS Cloud

Telefonica asserts itself as the first telecommunications provider to have an operational core network on AWS

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its network capabilities, O2 Telefonica (Telefonica Germany) has announced the deployment of 5G Standalone (SA) core software, fully implemented in the Cloud. The telecommunications giant revealed that it has launched its 5G Cloud Core operations on Amazon Web Services (AWS) with support from Finnish network supplier Nokia. This rollout marks a significant milestone as Telefonica Germany becomes one of the pioneers in leveraging cloud infrastructure for its core network operations. By migrating to AWS, Telefonica aims to leverage cloud advantages such as higher availability, reliability, and faster software upgrades, ultimately resulting in an enhanced network experience for its customers. Emphasizing the security aspect, Telefonica highlighted that the AWS infrastructure is designed to offer the most secure cloud computing environment, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of customer data.

In response to the deployment, AWS commented that Telefonica's move represents a shift towards complete automation and flexibility on a large scale, reinforcing Telefonica's position as an innovative leader in the telecommunications industry.
