Chinese Video Game Market Hits...The game's global distribution via the Steam platform has been particularly notable, with over 21 million copies sold and over US$1 billion in revenue
According to recent research, the popularity of China's first AAA video game, Black Myth: Wukong, helped propel the country's video gaming sector to unprecedented levels in the third quarter. The China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association's Gaming Publishing Committee revealed that the market's income jumped to 91.8 billion yuan (US$12.9 billion), an 8.95% increase over the 84.2 billion yuan registered during the same period last year. Game Science, a Hangzhou-based company, created the highly anticipated game Black Myth: Wukong, which was made available on Windows and the PlayStation 5 by Sony and published in August. Due to its popularity both domestically and abroad, sales have increased significantly, contributing to a nearly 21% increase in overseas earnings for games made in China, which now total US$5.17 billion.
The game's global distribution via the Steam platform has been particularly notable, with over 21 million copies sold and over US$1 billion in revenue. Thanks to its remarkable success, which has brought the company into the public limelight, Game Science is currently the 12th largest game publisher on Steam, behind industry heavyweights Valve, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft. The tremendous performance of Black Myth: Wukong marks a significant turning point for the Chinese gaming industry and confirms China's position as the world's second-largest video game market in terms of revenue.
