Generare Raises €5M to Sc...With the additional funds, Generare hopes to develop its technology, expand its biosynthetic library, and create blueprints for an extensive discovery factory
Generare, a biotech startup focused on uncovering new medicines and high-value molecules from microbes, has secured €5 million in Seed funding. The round was led by Teampact.ventures, Galion.Exe, and EU-backed VIVES Partners, with participation from Synbioven, Saras Capital, Better Angle, and notable business angels. The funds will accelerate the development of Generare's data-driven platform, which uses advanced synthetic biology and computational techniques to tap into the chemical diversity of soil bacteria.
With a foundation of 10 years of exceptional research, Generare's platform reads the genomes of microbes to find unidentified bioactive compounds, or natural products (NPs) with high potential for drug discovery. Ninety-seven percent of microbial compounds are still undiscovered, despite the fact that NPs, once an essential component of drug development, have produced over 500 approved medicines. By expressing hundreds of gene clusters simultaneously through innovative shotgun cloning procedures, Generare seeks to transform this field and significantly raise the possibility of finding new bioactive compounds. In an effort to speed up drug development, the startup has partnered with Aurobac Therapeutics and has already discovered more than 100 new molecules. The i-Lab Prize and the European Research Council's recognition of Generare's founder, Vincent, further highlight the innovative potential of the company.
With the additional funds, Generare hopes to develop its technology, expand its biosynthetic library, and create blueprints for an extensive discovery factory. According to CEO Guillaume Vandenesch, by utilizing nature's untapped potential, the company is transforming drug discovery.
