Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB) and Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas), the national energy corporation of Malaysia, have finalized a five-year Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) for the sale of 16 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) to meet Sabah's increasing energy needs. The agreement, signed through Petronas' subsidiary Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), highlights the company's dedication to the state's transition to sustainable energy.
Bacho Pilong, Senior Vice President of MPM, noted the importance of the deal by pointing out that it demonstrates Petronas' continued partnership with SESB and its dedication to supplying a reliable supply of electricity. According to a company statement, Pilong stated, "This Gas Sales Agreement is a testament to our enduring partnership with SESB and our shared ambition in securing a sustainable energy future for Sabah."
The agreement comes after Petronas recently extended its 46-year LNG delivery agreement with Mitsubishi Corp. to international markets, mainly Japan. Mitsubishi renewed its partnership in Malaysia LNG Dua and MLNG Tiga, pledging a ten-year collaboration. The recent agreements highlight Petronas' active attempts to support the expansion of industry and provide energy security in regional and international markets.
