Copilot’s ‘Think Deeper’ Unlocks Free AI Power

Microsoft offers free access to OpenAI’s o1 model via Copilot’s “Think Deeper” feature for advanced AI reasoning.

Microsoft is making a bold move in AI accessibility by integrating OpenAI’s powerful o1 model into its Copilot assistant, offering unlimited access at no cost through the new “Think Deeper” feature.

Previously, OpenAI’s o1 model, launched in December, was locked behind paid subscriptions—ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month with limited access and ChatGPT Pro at a hefty $200 per month for unlimited use. Microsoft’s decision effectively removes these barriers, giving users free access to one of OpenAI’s most advanced AI reasoning models.

Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman announced that Copilot users everywhere can now use the o1 model without a subscription. The feature is available through the Copilot app on Windows and the web-based Copilot platform at copilot.microsoft.com, requiring only a Microsoft account for login.

The "Think Deeper" function works as a mode in an advanced processing procedure that would make Copilot comes up with more reflective and fact-based answers instead of brief, short-sighted responses. It doesn't attempt to fetch real-time internet results like a search engine would but aims at deep analysis, explanations, and creative problem-solving. Users can turn this feature on before entering their queries to attain better quality responses.

Although Think Deeper's knowledge only goes up to October 2023, it is really strong in scientific concepts, historical analysis, and generating code. It can generate software development plans at a detailed level and even produce custom C# source files for specific applications.

Microsoft's decision to make a top-tier AI model free to access could have a huge impact on AI adoption, making advanced reasoning tools more accessible and positioning Copilot as a serious competitor in the AI space.
