U.S. Startup Introduces the Wo...Unlike traditional shells, Tiberius Aerospace’s supersonic artillery offers advanced speed, range, and smarter defense capabilities.
A new chapter in military technology has been written by a UK–US-based defense firm by blurring the line between traditional artillery and missile systems. During the Future Artillery Conference in London, a defense firm known as Tiberius Aerospace, set up in 2022, unveiled the world’s first supersonic artillery shell, bringing a notable breakthrough in artillery systems.
The ‘Sceptre TRBM 155HG’ is a 155mm shell driven by a ramjet engine with liquid fuel, marking a major step in long-range precision strike capabilities. Created to go beyond the limits of most traditional defense measures and GPS jamming systems, Sceptre reaches speeds up to Mach 3.5 and can operate at altitudes over 65,000 feet. To maintain very high supersonic speeds and travel up to 150 km (100 miles), according to its payload weight, the ramjet propulsion system enables and plays a crucial technological role in the shell. The shell employs AI technology, a sensor system, and GPS to rectify the real-time errors. Precisely hitting the target and making a wider impact can be enabled by this innovation since it can communicate with each other while in flight. By reducing the storage risks and improving the shelf life to more than 20 years, the shell can also run on diesel, JP-4, or JP-8 fuels with a just-in-time fueling design.
While designing the weapon, commercial engineering techniques, especially modularity and open architecture, were employed by the founder and CEO of Tiberius Aerospace, Chad Steelberg. Integration with a third-party fire control system is enabled by the shell since it features an electronic system with an open API. By defining the capabilities of modern artillery and opening a new era in indirect firepower, this AI-guided artillery shell controls the future battlefield.
