Delhi Hotel Fire Live: 21 Kill...At least 21 people were killed in a massive fire at the Flourish Stay B&B in Delhi's Malviya Nagar. The Silicon Review reports on the tragedy, safety lapses, and rescue operations.
A massive fire broke out at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area, killing at least 21 people and injuring several others. The blaze erupted at the Flourish Stay B&B in the congested Hauz Rani locality around 8:48 am on June 3, 2026.
Delhi Fire Services rushed multiple fire tenders to the spot. Officials confirmed that more than 40 people were rescued from the smoke-filled building and rushed to nearby hospitals, where 21 were declared dead. Several of those killed were foreign nationals, primarily from Central Asian and African countries. Many victims were family members of patients undergoing treatment at the nearby Max Hospital.
The building comprised a basement, ground floor and five upper floors. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was so intense that people began jumping from the second and third floors to save themselves. Local residents used mattresses from a nearby shop to cushion the fall of those who jumped.
Shocking safety violations have emerged as investigators probe the tragedy. The hotel had a B&B licence for only six rooms but was illegally operating approximately 25 rooms. Several unauthorised rooms were crammed into the basement, an area highly susceptible to suffocation during a fire. The building reportedly had only one exit, which witnesses claimed was locked at the time of the fire. Delhi Chief Fire Officer Abhilash Malik said the fire department had no record of a fire safety certificate being issued to the building.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government is closely monitoring the situation.
