Verda (previously DataCrunch), a Helsinki-based AI cloud infrastructure firm, has officially surpassed the $1 billion valuation benchmark, becoming the newest tech unicorn in Europe.

The Helsinki-based AI infrastructure company, Verda (previously DataCrunch) declared themselves a unicorn, as the company raised €164.8 million ($189 million) in fresh funding to scale its full-stack AI cloud. With the help of this funding the company is now the Europe’s latest tech unicorn.

Ruben Bryon, Verda’s founder and CEO said “AI is becoming critical infrastructure across industries, and the next few years are a pivotal window for Europe. Our north star is to build the first true tech company in Europe, with AI infrastructure as the starting foundation, and to bring down the carbon footprint of compute worldwide. We’re proud of our progress but are a long way from being done.”

Bryon founded DataCrunch (Now Verda), a full-stack AI cloud startup, in 2020, claiming to handle everything from hardware and physical data centers to cloud platforms and AI research. The firm highlighted that, because to the Northern region's natural advantages in clean electricity and efficient cooling, its data centers in Finland are powered entirely by renewable energy.

DataCrunch rebranded as Verda in last November. The company said “The name Verda is derived from the Spanish word for ‘true’ and the Esperanto word for ‘green’. The name change symbolizes and reinforces our values of technological integrity and sustainable innovation.”

The announcement follows the company's July annualized sales run rate of €143.85 million ($165 million) and its acquisition of a €22 million loan from the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB). The Finnish startup, backed by Lifeline Ventures, raised around €102 million ($117 million) in equity fundraising in April of this year. With this funding, the company hopes to speed product development at every level of its AI cloud, from platform services for frontier AI teams in the agentic era to computational capacity.

The lead investor of Verda, Emergence Capital’s General Partner, Joe Floyd said “Demand for AI compute is insatiable, and the gap between demand and supply is growing. Verda is moving quickly to secure and scale capacity, with the technology, ambition, and momentum to become a defining AI infrastructure company.”

Verda is quickly evolving from a Nordic success story into a worldwide powerhouse with recently opened headquarters in San Francisco and London. This $189 million investment not only ensures the company's competitive positioning against domestic and international rivals as it aggressively expands its full-stack AI cloud infrastructure, but it also represents a turning point in the development of Europe's deep-tech and artificial intelligence ecosystem.
