To Protest the ban on CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House, major US television networks suspended their combined coverage of President Donald Trump on Monday.

US President Trump banned the three media organizations CNN, Politico, and MS NOW on Friday, accusing them of writing ‘fiction or lies’ about the US administration. The three media organizations have threatened the administration, saying that they will sue the US administration in a bid to “defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports.”

Shortly after these bans, the White House announced its own streaming channel, Trump TV, which is going to operate a 24/7 feed of videos of President Trump. A number of other US media organizations have also said that they will not cover pooled events. The Washington Post and New York Times, for example, have stated that they will not post still photos from Trump rallies on Monday. As a result, there was no network TV video of Trump traveling to New York to attend the UN General Assembly or boarding Air Force One. Additionally, Trump participated in the White House South Lawn ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Marine One helipad. Although the White House website streamed the event, his remarks could not be heard.

As US President Trump was in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York, met President Trump. And they both made an appearance on television as the mayor informed the President that the press conference would be open to all members of the media. Later, Mamdani mentioned to the press that he dissented from the White House’s decision to ban media outlets. He said “I told the president that we’re going to have all of the members of the press here on the lawn, and that is something that I believe in.” Adding to the statement, he said that they talked about the removal of protections for Haitian immigrants by the Trump administration. “I shared my very strong opinions about how we can keep New Yorkers safe, how we can keep immigrant New Yorkers safe, and how important immigrant New Yorkers, especially Haitian New Yorkers, are – not only to the fabric of our city, but also to our city’s economy,” mayor said.

On the other hand, Trump responded in his usual manner, pointing towards the huge gathering of reporters on the lawn, he said “It’s interesting because they said they were going to boycott me, but they never boycott me, so I wasn’t very worried about that.” 

The relationship between the US government and the press has significantly escalated as a result of the White House press ban, the announcement a state-controlled media house (Trump TV), and the media boycott.
