Daimler Truck reported 26% growth in third-quarter vehicle sales on Thursday, as deliveries increased at both its North American unit and largely Europe-based Mercedes-Benz Trucks, offering an early indication that the stronger second half of the year forecast by management was taking shape. The truck maker sold 91,260 vehicles in the three months to September, up from 72,277 a year ago. The figures cover continuing operations only, because Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation were folded into ARCHION on April 1, 2026.
North America Drives Growth
Trucks North America, which includes the Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built Buses brands, sold 45,629 units, up 51% from 30,225 a year earlier. The region has been the primary driver of Daimler Truck's improved outlook.
"Strong results at Trucks North America and an improved outlook for the region, driven by higher unit sales and a lower tariff impact for the remainder of the year, give us the confidence to raise our full-year guidance," CEO Karin Rådström said in August.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which includes BharatBenz, sold 40,362 units, up 13% from 35,818.
Electric Sales Decline
Battery-electric truck and bus sales dropped 28% to 1,207 units, compared with 1,679 a year earlier. For the first nine months of 2026, battery-electric sales fell 2% to 3,354 units from 3,431. Daimler Buses also saw a decline, with sales falling 16% to 5,394 vehicles from 6,443.
Full-Year Outlook Raised
Daimler Truck raised its full-year guidance in August, citing stronger prospects in North America and tariff-related improvements following the approval of its U.S. Content application by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Adjusted EBIT at group level is now expected between €3.6 billion and €4.1 billion, up from previous guidance of €3.2 billion to €3.7 billion. Group unit sales are projected between 340,000 and 370,000 units, up from 330,000 to 360,000. At segment level, Trucks North America now expects an adjusted return on sales of 9% to 11%, up from 6% to 8%.
What's Next
Daimler Truck will report detailed financial and non-financial key figures for the third quarter on November 6, 2026.
Here is the question The Silicon Review raises. Daimler Truck has delivered strong growth in North America and Europe while its electric vehicle sales slide. When a commercial vehicle giant's core business is booming but its zero-emission ambitions are faltering, what does it say about the pace of the transition to electric trucks?
