The first English football player to win the famous Ballon d'Or in 25 years is Harry Kane. Michael Owen was the last English player to receive this distinction in 2001. The 33-year-old striker was formally crowned the world's greatest football player at a special ceremony in London.

Kane defeated some of the biggest names in the sport despite the difficult opposition. The well-known attacker from France and Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe, placed second. Third place went to the extraordinarily gifted teenage winger from Barcelona and Spain, Lamine Yamal.

For English football, Kane's victory represents a huge turning point. He is currently just the fifth English player to win the trophy. Along with Bobby Charlton and Stanley Matthews, he becomes a part of a legendary group. Being the first player to win the award since 1981, it is also a significant event for his current German team, Bayern Munich. The iconic arches at London's Wembley Stadium were illuminated in a vivid golden hue to commemorate the historic triumph. Kane's incredible numbers from the previous season earned him this international distinction. He broke the record for the most goals scored in a single season by scoring 61 goals in just 51 games for Bayern Munich. Including his England international games, he concluded the season with an incredible 73 goals and 8 assists.

When discussing his triumph, Kane talked about how much effort it required to reach the top. He clarified that he had to overcome many challenging times and that many people did not anticipate him reaching this level early in his career. He stressed that the real keys to his success were perseverance, self-belief, and daily hard work. He said “I'd say a dream comes true but it's beyond my wildest dreams, so just incredible. I think it's massive for England, for our country. Being here in London was a good omen for me and it's been too long. To put us back on the map and put us here with this trophy, I'm extremely proud.” Further he added “I still have a lot to achieve in this game. The Champions League, at club level, and to win a major trophy with England is the number one priority for sure. There's so many great things I want to achieve.”

The news has everyone in the football community thrilled. Thomas Tuchel, the manager of the England national team, expressed his happiness for Kane, describing it as a great honor. Prince William even lauded the skipper, describing him as an excellent player and a brilliant leader.
