How to Check Someone’s New Instagram Follows with DolphinRadar
The Silicon Review 22 October, 2026
Author: Guest

People always want to know how many people have followed them on Instagram. Everyone wants to see how many people have recommended them on Instagram lately.

Instagram's Following list displays who a public profile is following, and it doesn't give any indication of when these contacts were added. Following updates is a function in DolphinRadar that allows a saved list to be compared with account(s) listed in subsequent reports.

Instagram updated the list of followers and Following lists' delivery in September 2026. The order in which they are displayed is not a good indication of the follow dates. This list may change format from visit to visit, and an older follow can be higher in the list than a newer one. As such, a name that moves upward does not set up a new follow.

Following Updates allows users to relook at a public freestyle's Followed Users and Accounts that have been saved from the first visit to a report, DolphinRadar says. The first-seen date is the first date an account will appear in DolphinRadar's reports, not the exact date the Instagram user's account is followed.

How DolphinRadar's Following Updates Work

It starts with a saved Following list that can be used as a reference for the subsequent reports. What follows is a list of accounts that were previously there, not new ones.

This is explained in the updated Track Instagram Following Activity page. Importantly, the feature will not be able to restore any activity prior to the date the starting list was saved.

How to Use DolphinRadar in Three Steps

This makes a real-life example of the product's process instead of a test.

  • Step 1: Enter a Public Instagram Username
    • Type the public Instagram profile's username. Look at its spelling and see if it is the desired profile.
    • DolphinRadar uses public data available on Instagram. It gives no access to private profiles or information that is denied by privacy settings.
  • Step 2: Save the Starting Following List
    • Later reports are referenced to the current Following list in the profile. This creates the list of existing accounts when the process started.
    • Then, if that profile's starting list is saved, it preserves the 250 accounts that the profile is following; for example, it preserves the 250 accounts that the profile is following. Don't treat them as "add later" reports when analyzing reports later.
  • Step 3: Review Following Updates
    • Read the following report(s) on Accounts not listed on the initial list. These accounts are accompanied by the first-seen dates, which are available for them.
    • Please bear in mind that these dates are the time from when DolphinRadar first encountered an account in its reporting. They aren't pointing to the exact time that the Instagram user has followed the account. Depending on the state of your current account and subscription, you could also have access to e-mail updates.

An Example: Understanding New Entries

Assume someone watches a musician's social media on Instagram. Suppose a fan watches a musician's social activity on Instagram. In a later Following Updates report, the life of a photographer is offered.

The assumption is that it is not there as part of an established working partnership, but that can be proved by reading about it in magazines and publications in the field of public photography, by hearing about it at events, and by portfolio references.

What Should Users Know Before Accessing the Tool?

DolphinRadar's Following Updates are for public profiles. The starting-list approach also means that activity before the starting list is saved cannot be recreated in subsequent reports.

There's no need for an Instagram login, and the profile owner won't know they've been looked up, says DolphinRadar. But this is not to say that users have never been in need of a DolphinRadar account or subscription. Access conditions before use need to be checked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to find out who somebody followed prior to saving the beginning list?

No. Previous activities cannot be recreated by inferring what occurred from any of the post reporting activity later that day.

Is the first seen date the correct time of the Instagram follow?

No. It will show when the account was found in DolphinRadar's reports and not exactly when they followed on Instagram.

Is DolphinRadar able to use private Profiles?

No. The feature is meant for sharing information about a profile that is open to the public.

Is a login required for Instagram and will the profile owner know?

An Instagram login is not needed, and the profile owner does not know of the lookup, according to DolphinRadar. There may be DolphinRadar account/s or subscription requirements.

Is the new thing a collaboration or relationship?

No. A new entry only means new entries from the saved starting list. There's a need for more evidence in the public domain to determine a relationship.

Conclusion

The Followers is not a reverse-chronological list of everyone you recently follow on Instagram. DolphinRadar's Following Updates offers a methodical approach to comparing Models (public Following lists) saved in earlier reports with the models that are shown in a later report. Existing Entry vs. Subsequent Appearance vs. First-Seen Date can be used to give users context on how and when changes occur without making unprovable assumptions.
