On Wednesday, Spotify revealed that it is expanding audiobook access to more than 180 global regions, including parts of Europe, America, the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa and Asia. More than 350,000 titles, including local language catalogs in more than 120 languages, will be available to listeners in these markets thanks to this growth. In a media conference, Owen Smith, VP of Audiobooks at Spotify, stated that the firm currently works with around 300 publishers worldwide and has ambitions to add more partners. The Spotify for Authors program will also allow self-published authors and local publishers to post titles in their native language.

Owen Smith, VP of Audiobooks, Spotify said “Books change how we see the world and the people in it. For a lot of people, audiobooks are how they find their way back to reading, on the commute, on a walk, or at the end of a long day. Bringing audiobooks to more than 180 markets means millions more people can discover that, and authors and publishers can reach readers they’ve never been able to reach before.”

Before this, audiobooks were mostly accessible in English-speaking countries including United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany. To expand the number of titles available in various areas, Spotify is collaborating with over 300 publishers globally, including Mondadori and Planeta. Users in eligible nations like Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, and Peru can listen to 12 hours of audiobooks with a Premium subscription. To access titles with a 15-hour limit, people all around the world can also buy an Audiobook+ solo subscription. As an alternative, consumers can directly purchase individual titles.

The "Page Match" feature, Spotify introduced in February, allows customers to scan a page of a real book and locate the matching location in the audiobook to listen to. According to the company, one million people have used the feature every month since its release. According to Spotify, monthly audiobook listeners increased by 40% and listening hours by 30% in the past year.
