thesiliconreview-louay-eldada-ceo-quanergy-19

The company's 3D time-of-flight LiDAR sensors are designed from the ground up to meet all six key commercialization criteria: price, performance, reliability, size, weight, and power efficiency. Quanergy’s innovations, covered by 13 patents, address the needs in various markets for 3D LiDAR sensors and LiDAR-based sensing systems. Quanergy delivers robust and intelligent real-time 3D mapping solutions that work day and night while performing object detection, tracking, identification, and classification. In the automotive space, affordable LiDAR sensors enable broad deployment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems. 80% of transportation accidents are avoidable with this technology, and Quanergy is bringing it to the masses.

Trademark Products

Qortex: Qortex is Quanergy's core perception software platform which serves as the main technology framework for LiDAR sensor perception. This innovative software allows for an entirely new level of smart awareness for various applications and markets and is compatible with Quanergy’s full suite of LiDAR sensors.

M8: The M8 is the first cost-effective long-range LiDAR sensor enabling ubiquitous use of smart sensing in dynamic situations made and tested for 3D mapping, security, harsh industrial environments, and the most demanding applications. The M8 sensor’s small design sees by day or night, with no IR signature needed, and works in any weather.

S3-8: The S3-8 solid state sensor's housing fits in the palm of oneshand for seamless integration into the design of any vehicle. The elimination of all moving parts improves performance and reliability over mechanical models. Through the interaction of three major components, the S3-8 generates half a million data points per second. Lasers emit collimated light pulses in a 120° arc. Light receivers detect the reflected light pulses. Signal processors calculate the Time-of-Flight (TOF) of each light pulse. With the ability to scan in every direction, the unit creates a live 3D view around a vehicle to detect, classify, and track objects in the scene.

S3-1: The S3-1 is the game-changing smart sensor that sets new benchmarks in size, weight, and cost. The S3-1 is the smallest LiDAR sensor on the market with a maximum range exceeding 100 meters. This solid-state sensor is ideal for applications requiring object detection at the long range including drones, intelligent robotics, security, smart spaces, and industrial automation. In drones, payload and battery runtime benefit greatly from these compact sensors.

Technology at its Best

Quanergy’s 3D time-of-flight LiDAR sensors were designed from the ground up to meet mass commercial deployment criteria in various markets. The technology roadmap covers multiple classes of high-performance LiDARs, with one class mechanically-based, and the other classes’ solid state. The cost, performance, size and reliability metrics exceed those of existing state-of-the-art solutions by one to two orders of magnitude.

Solid State Sensing: The LiDAR smart sensing technology has evolved into solid state implementations with the S3-8 and S3-1, which contain no moving or vibrating parts on either macro or micro scales. This assures the highest level of performance, reliability, longevity, and cost efficiency while enabling increasingly smaller footprints that require less power. The compact package integrates seamlessly into vehicles or any other platform that stand to benefit from smart, capable, always-aware perceptive vision. Through the interaction of three main components – emitter, receiver, and signal processor, the S3-8 creates a real-time, long-range 3D view of the environment and provides the ability to recognize and classify objects.

Perception Software: Quanergy's advanced artificial-intelligence software enables the perception of objects based on data collected by one or more LiDAR sensors. The software can be applied to a variety of platforms (e.g., transportation, industrial automation, 3D mapping and surveying, and security) to enable rapid 3D detection, measurement, tracking, identification and classification of objects, as well as triggering actions based on real-time scenario analysis. The perception software can run on top of visualizers such as RViz or PCL CloudViewer to display the data points and moving objects as a point cloud 3D map.

LiDAR: The LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology at the helm of all Quanergy sensors uses Time-of-Flight (TOF) capability to measure the distance and reflectivity of objects and record the data as a reproducible three-dimensional point cloud with intensity information. Operating at the 905 nm wavelength, sensitive detectors calculate the light’s bounce-back Time-of-Flight (TOF) to measure the object’s distance and record the collected data as a reproducible three-dimensional point cloud. The sensor’s ability to detect objects that vary in size, shape, and reflectivity is largely unaffected by ambient light/dark, infrared signature, and atmospheric conditions.
