Facebook’s new tab 'Explore' now available on Android

Facebook’s new tab 'Explore' now available on Android

13 Febuary, 2017

Social networking giant ‘Facebook’ seem to be working on adding a new Explore tab to its Android app, which will illustrate user content similar to what they already engage with on the social media platform. Only accessible on the beta version of the main Facebook for Android app right now, the all new Explore feature has not been rolled out to all users. The move follows similar testing on iOS.

Users who have received the Facebook beta for Android update will observe two tabs at the bottom of the screen: ‘Home’ and ‘Explore’. The Home tab shows the content from friends, groups users are part of, and pages and people they follow. So essentially, the Home tab currently operates as News Feed. On the other hand, the all newly introduced Facebook Explore tab seems to work alike to Instagram’s Explore tab. The tab further recommends content based on content users have interacted with in the past. It presents content from pages similar to what they have ‘liked’, but not the ones they already follow.

Revealed by the Explore tab on the Facebook Android beta app, the content is a mix of images, videos, and links. But as far as Advertisement is concerned, no Facebook advertisements are been noticed in the feed on the Explore tab. Such sponsored content remains relegated to the Home tab in the new Facebook beta for Android layout.

It is also said that, reportedly, Facebook added an Explore tab to its iOS app in January, but so far the all new feature has not been rolled out to most iPhone and iPad users. Facebook Explore tab is expected to be a good move as users will be engage with pages they don’t follow, thus boosting rendezvous on the platform as a whole.
