Here’s what you need to know about the new Nokia 3310
The Silicon Review
10 March, 2017

In an attempt to re-conquer the fickle market of mobile phones, erstwhile giant Nokia, the world's top mobile maker between 1998 and 2011, has launched a revamped version of the iconic Nokia 3310 after more than a decade. It has also the released three brand-new smartphones, the Nokia 5, Nokia 6 (already released in China) and the Nokia 3.

The new updated model of the 3310 features a 2.4-inch screen with a 240x320 pixels colour display. Touchscreen is unavailable as the old-school T9 keypad is retained, but the screen gets an update – it is covered with a polarized layer ensuring you don’t have to squint to view the text under direct sunlight. The revamped version comes with a 2-MP rear camera with LED flash and a microSD slot for additional storage space. If these features hardly seem appealing to you, Nokia promises that the 1,200mAh battery on the device will offer up to 22 hours of talk time and 25 days of standby time, a ten-fold increase compared to the original model.

The new variant runs on the Series 30+ operating system, so forget about using Whatsapp on it. However, the model does allow mobile browsing. An updated version of the iconic game ‘Snake’ makes a comeback, complete with fresh graphical upgrades. Priced at around Rs. 3,500, the new Nokia 3310 is expected to go on sale after April.

"We think (Nokia) could take 5 percent of the global smartphone market by the end of 2019. But it needs to get big quick or it won't work," said CCS Insight's device specialist and chief of research, Ben Wood.
