Google’s ‘Android Go’ introduced for entry-level devices at Google I/O 2017

The most popular Internet search giant ’Google’ at Google’s I/O annual developers conference keynote address, announced its next chief operating system Android O. The operating system is been made available as a public beta in the form of Developer Preview 2. Well, this apart the company also announced a new version of Android, called Android Go, designed for entry-level devices.

Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android and Play, mentioned about Android’s reach across countries and across the smartphones of all kinds. In their efforts to carry Android to everyone, the company announced stripped down software, called Android Go, for entry-level Android devices with 1GB or less of memory.

Focusing on three things majorly, Android Go optimizes the latest release of Android to run easily on entry-level devices, a rebuilt set of Google apps that uses less memory, storage space and mobile data and finally a version of Play Store that will not only provide the whole catalogue but will also highlight apps purposely designed for entry-level users. These three features will ship to Android O devices with 1GB or less memory starting in 2018.

Well, this apart, Google is also designing several apps like YouTube Go, Chrome and Gboard which uses less memory and are in a way easy on mobile data. The company is making optimizations to the system UI and the kernel to let an Android O device built with the Go pattern to run easily on as low as 512MB to 1GB of memory.

The devices with the Android Go will have a data management and savings in quick settings, and teaming up with carriers will let them maintain track of how much data have been consumed with the ability to top up. Meanwhile, the previously accessible data saving feature in apps like Chrome will be activated on default.

The giant also openly announced YouTube Go, an app which is exclusively built for India and now we learn, also designed for Android Go. YouTube Go offers a sample mode that lets the users swiftly checks out the video before deciding whether they actually want to see it and spend your data on it. One can also choose between Basic and Standard quality depending on how much data you want the video to consume. That’s not all; it also lets you save the videos when linked, so that one can view them later under low to no connectivity. An offline sharing feature lets the user share YouTube Go videos with peers without losing any data.
